Started With a Toolbox and a Promise
In 2012, Dave walked away from a steady gig at one of Kelowna's largest mechanical contractors. Not because the work was bad — but because he kept hearing the same thing from homeowners: "Nobody picks up the phone when my furnace dies at midnight."
He figured he could do better. Karen backed the idea, they took out a small business loan for a van and diagnostic equipment, and Alpine HVAC was born out of their garage and a kitchen table covered in service manuals.
The first year was all emergency furnace calls and filter replacements — the bread-and-butter jobs. But Dave showed up fast, charged what he quoted, and actually explained what was wrong with the system. People noticed. They told their neighbours.
Twelve years later, it's a team of 7, a shop on Richter Street stocked with parts and diagnostic gear, and a reputation built on one simple idea: when someone's house is freezing or sweltering, you don't make them wait.

Not Working Out of a Garage Anymore
Our shop on Richter Street is stocked with furnace igniters, blower motors, capacitors, refrigerant, and diagnostic equipment so most jobs get done in one trip. Every truck rolls out loaded with the parts homeowners need most — including filters, thermostats, and common control boards. We also carry refrigerant recovery equipment for safe, EPA-compliant AC and heat pump service.

From Solo Tech to a Team of 7
Every milestone was earned the hard way — one comfortable home at a time.
One Van, One Thermostat
Dave left his position at a large mechanical contractor, bought a used Ford E-250, and started taking calls. Karen handled the books from the kitchen table while their garage doubled as a parts depot.
Growing By Referral
Word of mouth did its thing. The team expanded to 2 trucks and hired the first apprentice technician. Emergency furnace calls in the Okanagan winter kept the phone ringing nonstop.
Heat Pump Specialists
Invested in heat pump training and refrigerant recovery equipment. Became one of the first local shops to focus heavily on ductless mini-split and air-source heat pump installations.
A Proper Shop
Moved into the current workshop on Richter Street. Finally had room for a real parts inventory, diagnostic workbench, and enough parking for the growing fleet of service vans.
2,500 Homes Comfortable
Hit a milestone nobody was counting but everybody felt. Twenty-five hundred homes served, and most new calls still came from past customers telling their neighbours.
Team of 7 Strong
The team grew to 7 licensed HVAC technicians. That first apprentice from 2014? He's now a senior lead running his own service crew across the Okanagan.
